¿Qué son los sistemas EDI?
Los sistemas EDI (intercambio electrónico de datos) son herramientas que ayudan a las empresas a intercambiar datos e información con sus socios comerciales de manera estandarizada, estructurada y digital. Estos datos pueden ser documentos como órdenes de compra, solicitudes de presupuesto (RFQ), propuestas, recibos o facturas. Cada tipo de documento se adapta a un estándar de diseño y contenido para mostrar la información de manera fácil y comprensible para todas las partes involucradas.
Ventajas de los sistemas EDI
Los sistemas EDI conectan a las empresas transfiriendo automáticamente datos estructurados sin necesidad de intervención manual. A continuación se muestran las principales ventajas de este software:

Consideraciones a la hora de comprar sistemas EDI
- EDI interno o externalizado: los sistemas EDI pueden resultar costosos para algunas pequeñas y medianas empresas, ya que para su correcto funcionamiento es necesario contar con personal de TI dedicado. El EDI gestionado, o externalizado, es un nuevo concepto emergente en este espacio. Los proveedores de servicios EDI gestionados cobran una tarifa básica inicial y un precio basado en el número de documentos a compartir. Este modelo es adecuado para pequeñas empresas que comparten unos pocos documentos cada día. Evalúa tus necesidades de EDI tanto actuales como futuras antes de decidir si deseas externalizar el servicio a un tercero.
- Nivel de integración: los sistemas EDI deben interactuar con otro software para importar y exportar datos. Asegúrate de que la solución elegida puede integrarse con los sistemas de tu empresa y los de tus socios comerciales. El software que elijas también debe ser flexible para poder integrarse con las aplicaciones que uses en el futuro.
- Estándares de datos de seguridad: los sistemas EDI se usan ampliamente para transferir documentos sensibles entre empresas. Por ello, es de vital importancia que evalúes los estándares de seguridad del proveedor. Asegúrate de que el software se adhiere a los más recientes estándares de seguridad y cifra los datos tanto en tránsito como en reposo.
Tendencias relevantes en sistemas EDI
- Los sectores sanitario y logístico lideran la implementación de EDI: Wayne Marshall, vicepresidente de servicios profesionales e ISO de EDI Staffing, afirma que los EDI han llegado para quedarse. Según Marshall, el EDI sigue creciendo 40 años después de su lanzamiento y prevalecerá en los sectores logístico y sanitario. Es de esperar que el mercado de EDI continúe creciendo a lo largo de los próximos años.
- La demanda de EDI crece entre las pequeñas empresas: hasta hace unos pocos años, las pequeñas empresas asumían una gran carga al tener que implementar costosas herramientas EDI para satisfacer los requisitos de sus socios comerciales.
